Grade 3/4 Introductory Unit on Structures
An introductory unit on structures using famous animal builders that students are familiar with. Students will learn about the importance of shelters for animals, how they are built, what makes them stable and how they vary in the animal kingdom. A fun way to make the importance of shelter relevant to students. The lesson can be done at the beginning of a structures unit or at the end. I prefer the end as this allows students to look at their home in a new light once they have learned more about how animals build their homes. I would recommend using this lesson plan after my unit plan on structures of famous animal builders. Can be easily adapted for lower or higher grades.
