I've taught hundreds of kids that feel like they don't remember where to begin when solving equations. This lesson is designed to help them understand their options. Walk them through the first "Guided Practice" problems, then either pair them up or ask them to try on their own. Once they realize they get the same answer every time, I believe their anxiety will diminish. Please view the video and forgive my verbal stumbles. Just share the pdf with your students and have them answer on paper. Works great in the classroom, via Teams, or GC. My students sure enjoyed working on this together. I hope yours do too.

This file shows a few examples of two-step equations and the best procedure for checking the answer to prove it is right. There are also a few practice problems and check reminders. The answers are provided so it's important to stress the need to show the entire process!

Use this file to make equations less daunting and maybe more fun to look at. I assign in Google Classroom and display on the Promethean Board as I walk the class through these (of course Microsoft Teams and a Smart Board would work also). Make sure to go over the practice problems to assess their learning!
