Solve One Equation Four Ways

I've taught hundreds of kids that feel like they don't remember where to begin when solving equations. This lesson is designed to help them understand their options. Walk them through the first "Guided Practice" problems, then either pair them up or ask them to try on their own. Once they realize they get the same answer every time, I believe their anxiety will diminish. Please view the video and forgive my verbal stumbles. I always teach this first when introducing multi-step equations. Ki

Just share the pdf with your students and have them answer on paper. Works great in the classroom, via Teams, or GC. My students sure enjoyed working on this together. I hope yours do too.

Use this file to make equations less daunting and maybe more fun to look at. I assign in Google Classroom and display on the Promethean Board as I walk the class through these (of course Microsoft Teams and a Smart Board would work also). Make sure to go over the practice problems to assess their learning!

I got some amazing work from my students using this .pdf presentation. Most of them say they get it. I sure hope your students tell you the same thing! I like to assign in Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams, go over the examples and explanation together, then have the kids do the exercises in a notebook or on an iPad.

About the store

Experience

I have taught middle-school mathematics in several districts in Arizona, Colorado and North Carolina. My philosophy has always been to be creative and devise ways to get young people to like school more and enjoy being in their math classes!

Teaching style

I do. We do. You do. Relentless pursuit of positive feedback, and I rarely sit down.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Perhaps I've never stayed in one place long enough for any awards to come my way just yet, and I'd much rather give an award than receive one anyway.

My own education history

I attended four colleges before finally receiving my degree at Northern Arizona University. I have an eight year old son and two adopted little 10-year-old ladies that have taught me more about life than any of my professors ever could.

Additional biographical information

I am obsessively creative and love math, so I combine those and post videos on YouTube frequently. I would love more teacher feedback on my work, so feel free to search Edward R. George and preview/comment on my 7th grade math lessons and 8th grade math lessons. We can get these standards into these kids. We just have to keep pushing.
