While working with my students on a daily basis with reading goals, I wanted a way to monitor what goals they are reaching and what we need to continue to work on. I found many different things on the internet, but non matched what I was imagining in my head. Some were set up similar, but didn’t have the components I wanted included, so I decided to make my own. Each section is worth 3 points (similar to have the reading records are scored). The most they can receive is a total of 21 points.

I used this product with my 2nd graders to fill in the blanks with their own rhymes. I then displayed it on a bulletin board for Read Across America!!! Included are 4 pages from various Dr. Seuss stories.

This product is editable. You may switch out the genre labels and the colors. I printed all mine out, cut and laminated together with the last page on top, "Comprehension Skills & Strategies" I then hung it on my door, got clothes pins with students numbers/names and they use as their exit ticket after reading... Similar to LLI running record comprehension questions. I always feel that my students have difficulty with the wording of the running record questions. Magic -e Wands are great when learning long vowel sounds with the silent -e at the end of words. I love to place a bunch of CVC words on an anchor chart, or around my room for the children to go around and add their magic -e to the end of the word to write and read a new word! Great practice and they have fun while learning! I laminate and cut mine out and attach to a ruler!

Vocabulary Books is great to have when doing reading. Whenever a student comes across a word he/she may not know, it's a wonderful opportunity to write it in the book, look up the meaning/synonym and draw an illustration.
