This graphic organizer can be used with ANYTHING! I use it a lot when teaching minilessons about theme using Pixar shorts.
Students must identify the characters, setting, and conflict before writing a summary and then identifying the lesson learned by the character and the theme of the movie, story, etc.
My students enjoyed using this resource and I believe that it helped to increase their overall understanding of theme.
This is a cumulative project meant to be assigned after reading "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe.
There are four choice board options: a movie poster, a text message conversation, a wanted poster, and a rap. On the back of the choice board is a description of the rules of the project as well as additional details for each assignment.
A unique and specific rubric is included for each of the four choices. If you purchase the product, I am willing to adjust the rubrics or rules to suit yo
This graphic organizer/worksheet is intended to be used during a whole-group or small-group close-read of "The Monkey's Paw."
While reading, students should stop to write down the line number and example of either theme or foreshadowing that they find in the story. This worksheet uses AVID strategies for close-reading and "marking the text" without being able to write in a textbook or on a copy of the story.

This worksheet follows along with standards and curriculum in Collections for 8th grade by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
I provide this self-assessment checklist to my students after we complete a unit. They reflect on their organization, motivation, focus, collaboration, etc. before we move on to the next unit.
This allows them to target three specific areas to focus on and to come up with a plan to improve in those areas.
