HEROES was established in 2007 to provide educational, social, and emotional opportunities and resources to exceptional scholars across the country. After spending years trying to open a school for the gifted with public funds or grant funding, Ms Voit concluded that the only way that New Jersey would have a school exclusively for gifted students was to choose between owning a home or building a school. So in October 2013, Ms Voit moved into a friend’s basement and opened the HEROES Academy for the Gifted in New Brunswick with her daughter Danielle.

Classes at HEROES Academy place an emphasis on developing creativity and skills in problem solving, critical thinking, and logic. We place students into classes based on their testing math and reading ability rather than by age or standard grade level. Our classes are active and rely heavily on the use of manipulatives, games, puzzles, and challenges. We believe that it is vital for students to develop a strong foundation before progressing forward. We also understand that different students progress at different paces. As such, our lesson plans and materials are designed to allow for easy differentiation.

​HEROES Academy is an intellectually stimulating environment where students’ personal growth is maximized by accelerated learning and critical thinking. Our students enjoy the opportunity to study advanced topics in classrooms that move at an accelerated pace. At HEROES, we allow students to enroll in classes based on their tested math and reading ability rather than limiting students based on their age. We determine class placement based on demonstrated academic achievements rather than age or grade in school. This allows students to study advanced topics with mental peers, providing them with a unique opportunity to develop lifelong friendships with other children close to their age who share similar interests.
