This lesson aligns with NGSS 3rd grade standards of heredity (3-LS3-1.Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence that plants and animals have traits inherited from parents and that variation of these traits exists in a group of similar organisms). This purchase alone is an interactive journal insert where students discover what the parents of an animal look like with justification from heredity discussion. It includes the Powerpoint.

This packet is designed to work with 3 stations. Students should rotate through 3 examples of Newton's Laws (one law for each station). When they are at the station, they have to draw what happens, write what they notice (observations) and wonder (inquiry-based questions), and then figure out which law the station is an example of and how they know. The back has a place for students to write a claim with evidence about physics and how force/motion works.

Students will have to create a landscape to help reduce erosion for a local celebrity or whoever you decide. They have a budget to stick to and will have to create a blueprint as well. I made a Powerpoint to go with this, and used our principal with cool sunglasses as our "celebrity".

Students will test out materials and then plan for a boat to float in a tub. Students have to work independently and the collaboratively with a group, justifying their choices in materials and build.

The second page is similar but for Fridays, or homework collection day, to also check off handed in homework!

Use this center for students to practice mentally adding 10 and subtracting 10. Make it 3 rolls for a 3 digit number once students are ready!

When learning how to add 10 and 100 to 3 digit numbers, start by having students model to truly understand! Then, when they are ready, you can move on to mental math!

This journal activity goes with nonfiction readings or videos. These four animals live in groups and students are to read or watch a clip of them working together (videos can be found on Mystery Science). They should then identify how the species works together and record it on the lines next to the animal picture. (Document does not look correct in preview, but it correctly formatted when downloaded)
