This activity teaches the students to use a real-world activity to apply each type of geometry transformation. They will have a great time "transforming" their house plans to satisfy the homeowners.
This graphing activity includes over 100 points that students will need to graph on a four quadrant grid. After the graphing is complete, I have the students add a message. Then, they have to name the points necessary to create the message. The students then trade papers to reveal each other's messages.
Our school mascot is a cobra, so I use this each homecoming as a fun activity. We graph the cobra on a large sheet of graph paper, and the students use their creativity to decorate the cobra as a homecoming queen, football player, cheerleader, etc...... If your mascot is not a cobra, use your imagination to create an activity to make the graph lots of fun for your students.
