Numberless word problems are a great way to work on solving word problems. I have found that when teaching word problem strategies, students skim through, find the numbers and try every operation until they get it right. Numberless word problems eliminate that step and force the students to really read through the problem and figure out what operation to use.

I have used this flowchart many times to help students with adding/subtracting integer rules. I have enlarged it to make a poster in my room. I have also had students cut and paste into an interactive notebook for reference.
