Have students sort the pictures of the books in to fictional and informational text.

Use this tool to see if students know the difference between fiction and informational text!

Have students count up each character and then make a tally chart. After making a tally chart students will make a picture graph to easily read the data while answering the questions.

Students roll the dice and move their cube (or any marker) down the number line that many spaces. Then they write the equation! For example if I am on 10 and roll a 2, I jump two spaces and write 10-2=8. Then their partner goes and does the same steps. First to 0 wins. There is a game board that goes 0-10 and one that is 0-20.

Have students make a book with every planet, then at the end the students get to write about what planet they would wish to visit! There are three different versions of every planet, for three different levels!

This is a fall/thanksgiving version of the game "ZAP" Students will have all the cards flipped over, put them in the middle, and pull one card at a time. To keep the card they must read the red word correctly. If they get the card that says "GOBBLE" they have to return all of their cards to the middle! They take turns going back and forth of who is drawing the card. It is the OG Red Words the-has.

Play a fun game of bingo while practicing Red Words (Sight Words)! We did a game of bingo where you have to get every square covered! That way they were practicing all the red words instead of stopping once they get 4/5 in a row.

Students will roll a die with ten on all sides and then a die with 1-6 or 4-9 to create a teen number. Then students will create a ten frame for the teen number that they rolled.

Students get to write what they think the Pigeon is saying. They need to convince the teacher to take them out for extra recess! Each student comes up with what the Pigeon is saying and then put the pages together and read the class book.

If you have toy fishing poles you can can make little fish with red words on them for students to fish for. If you do not have fishing poles you can just have students flip the fish over over or you can just have students write reds words in a fun way without the fish!

Use this as a fun activity at the end of the school year! This is a "Find Someone Who..." BINGO Students go around the room asking other students questions to see if they can write their name in that blank! They will can use their knowledge of what they have learned about others throughout the year to fill in the blanks.

I am reading "A Letter from your teacher" on the first day of school and then I am going to have students "write" a letter back about themselves. I am teaching first grade and know students might not be able to write so I made it so it could be pictures or words.

Use this activity as a center or partner work! The first two worksheets students read, trace, and write the red word. The third worksheet students play a game where a partner reads the red word and that student covers it with a candy corn! They can take turns on who reads and who finds it!
