Beginning Sounds Alphabet Matching

This is a great activity for students who are learning their letter sounds or a review for those who might need it. It can be made into a reusable activity or each student can have a copy to use and keep. It's a flexible project, meaning students can work on it in small groups, as a class, or individually with an adult or peer who has mastered the material. It could also be sent home as homework.

This activity happens to be themed to fit the Halloween season, but could also be suited as a “creepy” activity to be used any time of the year. Students can use it individually at a center, in small groups, as homework, or as a class.

The summary day. This is when students draw conclusions to the experiments performed. This download includes the lesson plans for the day, as well as a (cute!) student response sheet.

Antonyms (Opposites)

This activity can be used in many ways. It can be a review for students who may have been exposed to antonyms before. It can also be practice for younger students who are working on opposites, while giving them exposure to new words and vocabulary, even if they aren’t yet readers. Students may work independently, in small groups, or as a whole class. It is an activity that is ready to print, cut and use...and reuse!

Writing Survey & Reflecting on Myself for PT Conferences

There are 2 documents in this download. The first is a series of "self awareness" questions for students to fill out. After they fill it out, they find where they rated themselves weakest and set a goal for that area. The sheet allows for the teacher to have students revisit their goal & self eval halfway through the school year. They also then set a new goal or keep plugging away at the previously-set goal. The second doc is a writing survey. Both documents are great for Parent-Teacher (or even

Winter Fun Logic Puzzles

This is a fun-but-challenging activity that requires learners to use deduction skills. I usually begin to solve the problem with the class, then once they get the hang of it, they branch off into small groups, while others choose to work independently. Just print and go!

The Weather Report

This is a 1-sheet summary that the students can use to describe the weather. Print 1 color copy and laminate, having kids write with dry erase or Vis a Vis markers & erasing each day to start again. Or, you could also print copies for all students so they can make a weather book.

About the store

Experience

I've been teaching for 13 years. Five of those years were in a Montessori (1st-3rd grade) classroom in our newly-founded public school Montessori setting. Now I teach third grade (the best grade to teach, in my opinion)!

Teaching style

I honor student input and find value in students' ideas. My classroom is rarely filled with the teacher doing a bunch of lecturing. I have recently become interested in Whole Brain Teaching (check it out on YouTube).

Awards & shining teacher moments

Okemos Commitment to Excellence award, Extraordinary Science Curriculum award, Technology Guru plaque

My own education history

I bleed green and white, for Michigan State University, of course! It's nice living in (or near) a college town. There are so many resources that my students and I benefit from, such as the planetarium, dairy store (how to make ice cream), the Children's 4-H Gardens, Wharton (center for performing arts), and so much more! Plus, we teachers have access to professors and they are often willing to come into the classroom to enrich our lives more! I earned both my bachelor's and master's degrees from MSU. The College of Education has earned many honors too. It's a pedagogical mecca!

Additional biographical information

I have the most wonderful husband and a most amazing son and daughter. My son is in seventh grade and my daughter is in fourth. Life is good!
