Teaching style

I believe that ALL children deserve a challenging and interesting curriculum regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds. We need to make available a variety of tools and resources for all students to develop 21st Century skills of Digital Literacy, Creative Thinking, Critical Thinking, and Collaboration and Communication. We must help our students become global citizens to compete and succeed in the global market. We must provide opportunities for students to become flexible and respectful. I believe that we need to build a common ground for encouraging tolerance and understanding, and celebrating and respecting diverse cultures to support our children’s needs and progress academically and emotionally. For academic growth, we should provide challenging curriculum that keeps up with the current developments in content area and technology. We need to tap into our students’ diverse experiences as well as prior knowledge of content. Why should we do this? I believe that we need to build a strong foundation of a knowledge base that promotes the acquisition of transferable skills. I agree with E. D. Hirsch, Jr. who writes in The Knowledge Deficit that reading, writing, listening, and speaking proficiencies require a broad knowledge base.
