About the store
I have 7 years of teaching experience as a 6th grade science teacher in a suburban middle school. During this time, I've made it my mission to step out from my comfort zone, take chances, and learn from the stumbles along the way. The process has been rewarding beyond words, both professionally and personally. I have served on my district's 5-9 Science Curriculum Committee to develop an aligned curriculum from elementary, through middle school, and into high school. I was selected as a member of a small district cohort to receive training in project-based learning (PBL) through PBL Works (Buck Institute) and piloted PBL within my district. As a district-wide Blended Learning Mentor, I received training in blended learning strategies and enhancing instruction with technology and served as a building mentor.

Experience

I have 7 years of teaching experience as a 6th grade science teacher in a suburban middle school. The process has been rewarding beyond words, both professionally and personally. Teaching style

I'm passionate about developing a dynamic curriculum that is student-centered, engaging, relevant, game-based, and rigorous. One way I achieve this is by teaching through real-world problems, when possible. I believe when students are presented a real-life issue without an obvious solution and allowed to productively struggle, they take ownership in their learning and gain confidence in their ability to work through a challenging situation, rather than giving up. My philosophy is that a teacher should help students with where to look but shouldn't tell them what to see.

My own education history

My journey into education was non-traditional. I received a Bachelor's in Biology through the University of Central Missouri. I returned and attained a Master of Arts in Teaching a few years later. In 2021, I complete my Education Specialist in Educational Leadership and Principalship. I've attained my K-12 administrator certification and 9-12 Biology certification, in addition to my 5-9 Science certification.
