I presented this PPT to my students the first week of school to introduce growth mindset. Within the presentation are links to ClassDojo's Mind Growthset videos, and a video on "Famous Failures" found on youtube. I would stop before the video would reveal who the 'famous failure' was just to make it more interactive for my students.
***Warning: Please preview the Famous Failure video just to make sure it is appropriate for your age group, there is a mention of a celebrity who struggled with dr
This is a rubric after having a mini-lesson on timelines. Students will create their own timeline, and the rubric asks them to have AT LEAST 6 events (including their birthday), and they must also have a picture (or emoji-like icon) with each event. This can be an introduction to social studies' skills. File includes a PDF and PPT so you may edit it. Click HERE to see how to open a Zip file!
I first start with the warm up to show my students how to show their thinking for these questions, then I have them practice.
These are in English and in Spanish.
When my students were practicing writing business letters I compiled the names and addresses of popular business/companies that my students could write actual letters to. This was a great activity and my kids were excited to see if the companies would write back to them. Some of them received letters back and even got some awesome swag (mostly stickers haha).
The companies included are:
-Lego
-Xbox
-McDonalds
-Mattel
-Apple
-Nickelodeon
-Cartoon Network
-Disney
-Pixar
-DreamWorks
-Hershey's
I used these as practice for 5.9C STAAR questions. Perfect for warm up or exit tickets, or just general formative assessment for this TEK. Released by TEA.
This is a file with a lot of the science diagrams/visuals from the STAAR Science Test. I use this with a recording sheet for Test Prep and I've truly noticed a difference in how my students approach questions with visuals (which is about 70% of the test). Check out the Recording Sheet to help you get students to analyze these diagrams. There are two different versions for differentiation. I also have an English/Spanish version.
Students write their names then find an adjective for each letter of their name. Great practice for adjectives! I also allowed students to use a dictionary to find adjectives if they couldn't think of any adjectives on their own.
After learning about different careers in engineering, I had students choose one that they were really interested in and fill in this paper. I then took a picture of them and made those pictures into a bulletin board.
I also had students draw pictures of things related to that field of engineering. (bridges and buildings for civil engineers..etc.)
