Short quizzes are a great way to do quick check for understandings to see what students have mastered and what you need to review before moving forward. This quiz assesses students knowledge of: -ordering numbers least to greatest -finding the minimum, maximum, median, and first / third quartiles of a data set -drawing a box-and-whisker plot given a data set I used to give a short quiz every Friday for this purpose and found it extremely helpful for both myself and students to be in the routine
Short quizzes are a great way to do quick check for understandings to see what students have mastered and what you need to review before moving forward. This quiz assesses students knowledge of: -solving 2 step inequalities -graphing inequalities -solving 2 step equations (answers given as multiple choice) I used to give a short quiz every Friday for this purpose and found it extremely helpful for both myself and students to be in the routine of short assessment. (I believe students are over tes
Students learn how to label the different vocabulary about polynomial functions in this foldable for their notes. Copy double sided, cut pages into half sheets for students, have student cut between the words and fold over. Students will have on their paper where to glue into their notes. Inside the cards we wrote definitions, then I had students color code and label the different words on the example provided. I often saw students refering back to this for HW or practice!
Graph literacy is something all students need practice with. This investigation shows how powerful the information on a graph can be by relating it to the status of the various countries of the world. This activity can be used as an introduction to scatterplots, or after students have already been introduced to the topic. Students will be looking at this Health and Wealth Chart from Gapminder (https://www.gapminder.org/fw/world-health-chart/whc2019/) to deconstruct the information that is being
This worksheet helps students match parabolic graphs with functions written in both standard and vertex form. I sometimes print the worksheet and have students just match on paper, and sometimes I have them cut the pieces out and make posters where they need to show all their work and thinking - use to your discretion!
I always start my class with an easily accessible warm up (do now, drill, whatever you want to call it) so all students feel confident beginning math class. The skill is either something that is pre-requisite to that day's lesson or review from previous days. I do a couple examples on the board, and give students 5-7 minutes to complete a short drill which we then grade right away. This particular drill helps students practice identifying point of a pre-image and image for a rigid and non-rigid

In this activity, students are given graph paper to draw their own shapes on which they then use to find the perimeter and area of each shape. Shapes included are: Rectangle/Square, Parallelogram, Triangle, Trapezoid, Rhombus, and Circle. The different skills that are practiced on this poster are: -the ability to draw shapes using graph paper logically so as to find measurements easily -measuring sides of shapes using the graph paper grid -finding the shape of diagonals using the Pythagorean th
Students love kinesthetic activities to practice what they are learning! In this cut and paste mini project, students are asked to categorize both functions and graphs by whether they are even/odd and by their end behavior. I printed out the handout on colored paper and gave students plain paper to make their "posters". I use this activity in partners as a guided practice activity. Students get a better understanding of both concepts about polynomial functions with this sorting lesson!
Short quizzes are a great way to do quick check for understandings to see what students have mastered and what you need to review before moving forward. This quiz assesses students knowledge of: -identifying ordered pairs on a -finding slope uding ordered pairs and/or a graph -identifying the y-intercept of linear functions -writing the equations of linear functions in slope intercept form I used to give a short quiz every Friday for this purpose and found it extremely helpful for both myself a
