I created this assignment to use as an engaging introduction to our chemical bonding unit. I generally will give this directly after our test on atomic structure and the periodic table, so they are familiar with how to find elements on the table and how atoms are structured. It is also important for them to know where the metals and nonmetals are on the periodic table. The goal is that they come to the realization themselves that ionic bonds are made of at least one metal and one nonmetal, whil
Test your students' knowledge and quick thinking with this review game based on the Dropout.tv game show Um, Actually, tailored specifically for high school physics! This engaging and interactive slideshow challenges players to correct deliberately flawed statements about 1D kinematics topics. Students will: ✅ Identify common misconceptions about displacement, velocity, acceleration, and motion equations. ✅ Compete individually or in teams to spot the errors and claim points. ✅ Review key conce
Paper Airplane Inquiry Project | Hands-On Scientific Method ExperimentI created this assignment to use as a final project for my introductory Nature of Science unit in 9th grade physical science. I drew inspiration from many other similar assignments, but I wanted something that was a more comprehensive evaluation of students’ ability to apply the scientific method. By keeping the materials and variables relatively simple, they can (ideally) maintain a focus on the methods themselves. Students
Engaging General Video Worksheet | Active Viewing & Critical ThinkingI initially made this for my classes, when I did not have a full set of questions to go with a video/movie, or when I simply wanted to to pay more attention to the video itself, rather than anxiously wait for the next question answer to appear. This General Video Worksheet is designed to promote active engagement rather than passive watching, with little-to-no prep! With sections for Pre-Video, During-Video, and Post-Video r

I created this assignment to use as an introductory lab when starting the motion unit of my 9th grade physical science class. It could also be a good way to review prior to a motion unit in a higher level physics class. It covers basic measurements of distance and time, and has students use those measurements to find speed using a line graph. It also reviews the concepts of accuracy and precision. There is a CER section at the end. It is a simple lab that can be performed anywhere there is room.
This activity goes along with an episode of the 2002 British comedy series "Look Around You." It is a satirical take on old educational programs from the 1960s and 70s, and is a great way to show students how easy it is to be duped into believing things that would otherwise seem ridiculous! This episode pretends to be presenting information about calcium, but it just convincing enough to be believable to somebody with little-to-no prior knowledge. For that reason, it works best with students wi
I created this assignment in order to help my students practice understanding internet/media literacy in research. Misinformation is so easily spread on the internet, and when building lesson plans on ions I realized I could slip this in fairly easily. I generally assign this after we’ve learned about the subatomic particles and they have an idea of what ions are. Students will read through some provided articles, as well as find their own sources, in order to determine for themselves if there i
Celebrate diversity and inclusivity in your science classroom with this vibrant and meaningful poster, featuring the quote: "Diversity in science refers to cultivating talent and promoting the full inclusion of excellence across the social spectrum" by Kenneth Gibbs Jr. The design, featuring a beam of light passing through a heart-shaped prism and splitting into a rainbow, symbolizes the beauty and strength found in diversity.
