This document gently introduces the -yo form Spanish preterite tense to students while reviewing/introducing much relevant vocabulary. I personally use it after coming back from winter break with my 7th graders to discuss what students did over their vacation, but it can be used at any time of the school year. I use it an introduction/warm-up for students, and students take notes on the -yo form endings as well as useful phrases that indicate past occurrences. It is handy to be able to print t
This game is a fabulous pair activity game for reviewing vocabulary before a quiz or test, or simply for practice. I learned about it at a conference, so I can't take credit for the idea.

This PowerPoint presentation introduces Spanish students to the "Carnaval," and makes connections to the well-known "Mardi Gras" celebration. It is a simple and refreshing PowerPoint that includes many colorful and vibrant photos of Mardi Gras, Dominican Carnaval, and Puerto Rican Carnaval masks and costumes. A very refreshing culture lesson, and a nice change from the culture typically seen in textbooks. Please note that you will need to look up the current calendar year's dates for Lent and
This project encourages creativity and is a lot of fun for beginning Spanish students. Students create an imaginary city entirely in Spanish and must include prepositions of location to describe where buildings are in relation to one another. The project encourages creativity and speaking skills, and my Spanish 1 students love it!

This song by Sol Pereyra is so cool and unique! It is completely school appropriate as well. This exercise includes a single page Word document with a fill in the blank cloze exercise, a mini biography in Spanish and a photo of Sol, a word bank for the cloze, and two additional activities (circle the preterite verbs and personal questions). It also includes a key for the cloze and verbs activities on the second page. Enjoy! Que disfruten! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sg4c7jCC1yo
This Spanish preterite song helps students learn the regular -ar, and -er/-ir endings in a super fun and efficient way! It is sung to the tune of the Cucaracha, and I have included a karaoke link below so that you can get a feel for how I do it (You can always play it for a student and have him/her to do it for you if you're shy!) Have fun! This purchase comes with a "poster" in Word to project, and you can also print these for students to place in their folders, and or conjugate on a Smartbo
For this activity, students are assigned pairs and ask one another if they can do various activities based on a) ability or b) permission. They are even introduced to the present perfect tense if they have never done an activity and therefore cannot comment on it.
This document is in Word, so feel free to edit it as needed to match the interests of your students!
