Experience

It doesn't seem possible, but I have been teaching for 9 years! I began my career as a Kindergarten teacher in an extended day setting. I taught Kindergarten for 2 years. The other 7 years I have been in a first grade classroom. My first 4 years of teaching were in an extended day school in a major city. My last 5 years, I have been in teaching in a suburban school district.

Teaching style

I would say that I am "serious" about making sure all of my students grow and meet their goals. I focus on creating a strong classroom community and structured routines, so that my students feel safe to learn, grow, and explore their thinking.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have been honored to speak at several Professional Development sessions within my district. I am also happy to be serving on my district's Language Arts Committee as well as the School Improvement Team. I have been awarded the "90% Growth" award from my previous school. This award was given to me for having 90% of my students grow a year and a half according to their NWEA MAP scores.

My own education history

University of Illinois @ Urbana-Champaign with a B.A. in Elementary Education. Concordia University with a MA in Reading
