This Common Core Math Writing Journal allows your students to be completely independent learners during math center or Daily 3 time. Make time at the beginning of each week to set a goal or two with each student during guided reading groups. Students will be accountable and know their goal. Plus, they get feedback and know when they have reached their goal. Teachers meet and have proof of achieving Danielson Framework Excellent category.

These journal pages are meant to be used everyday as morning work or for math writing activities. At the beginning of the year, students begin with basic concepts. As the year progresses the expectations become more rigorous. All of the 1st Grade Common Core Number Sense skills are covered throughout the year.

These graphic organizers allow you to see your students thinking. I use them as I model and record my thinking. Then, I have the students use it during our mini-lessons for guided practice. Once students have demonstrated the ability to use the graphic organizer, I assess them using it. Later, I add it to their reading journals so they can show their thinking during independent reading time. Students are held accountable for completing learning activities with their spelling sorts. It is also a good way to show and communicate with parents about what words students are working on in the classroom! These activities are easy for students to independently complete while you are working with a small group of spellers.

Let students take ownership of their learning by helping them set math goals to work on. Put a paper clip on the standard that they are working towards. When they achieve standards they color in a box on the Achievement Chart. They also reflect on how and why they met the goal. This will facilitate building life-long learners.

These behavior management graphic organizers allow students to take ownership of their choices. They also provide an opportunity for students to decide how they could make better choices in the future. The think sheet provides a home-school connection by having a parent signature line. I hope these will be as effective for your students as they are for mine.

The "think sheet" allows students to draw and write about a poor choice they made and provides a space for them to draw and write a better choice they could have made. It also has a place for parents to sign so that a strong home-school connection can be present in your classroom.
