Silly In Second

During my Math Workshop students visit two rotations per day that are designed around the Math CCSS for my grade level. My “Fact Fluency” station is from the Operations & Algebraic Thinking Domain. Activities and games for this station are fairly simple, repetitive, and fun, of course! My goal is for students to be able to work on their Fact Fluency in pairs or on their own without needing to interrupt my small group instruction for directions on the activity.

For those of you familiar with my Addition and Subtraction Fact Family Houses you might make good use of my Multiplication Fact Family Houses and worksheets!

Students practice their Fact Fluency and familiarity with Doubles by playing this Double Bump Game. This works on addends up to 6. You may use a plastic spinner placed on top of the spinner on the second page or instruct students to use a pencil and paper clip as a spinner. This game has been played in pairs and group of three in my classroom.

This Doubles Bump game is used in my classroom for our Guided Math rotations to help students develop their fact fluency and understanding of doubles.

"Differentiated Cubes" from Really Good Stuff work perfectly with this activity. This pack includes 5 sets of Foam Die Inserts for students to practice vocabulary after it has been introduced. Each set has 4 number cards, a “Free Choice” and a “Return” card to prolong the activity. Each set also comes with the matching 4 Sum Cards. I copy these cards five or six times and cut apart. Students use a Connect 4 Board, Markers, Dice, and Pencils to create arrays with a partner. They fill in their answers in the work space following the example on the first page. Arrays will be no larger than 6-by-6.

This grid allows students to check their peers' answers to addition problems without the use of a calculator. I keep these with our Guided Math rotations that focus on Fact Fluency to discourage arguing over correct or incorrect answers. Students find the two addends and where their fingers meet is the sum for their addition problem.
