After participating in a Science Teachers' Workshop offered by Carolina Biological Supply called "Make a DNA Necklace, " I have created my own recipe for a DNA extraction buffer that generates the same results as the company. In fact, the DNA yields for my lab are much higher than the company's while saving me hundreds of dollars over the years. Here is my secret recipe contained in this lab, along with a series of Analysis and Discussion questions for the students. An answer sheet is provid
I created this powerpoint for my AP Biology students in the hope that they will have a firmer grasp of what standard deviation is beyond just a formula that is on an excel spreadsheet. Their intrinsic understanding helped them create beautiful graphs from their lab "Factors affecting enzyme activity lab" that I have included at the end of the powerpoint. Please let me know if you found it useful or what is lacking and I can make it even better as I find students shy away from the statistics when
Students get creative by constructing their own dichotomous key of these wacky imaginary creatures. This assignment is a step up from their prior knowledge of using a simple dichotomous key.
Please leave feedback after use and if you like the product, I'd love for you to follow me!
A great senior biology molecular biology/biotoechnology simulation of Frederick Sanger's DNA sequencing method by using colored paperclips and cups. Students will understand the process of using sequence terminators ddNTPs to build various fragment sizes before simulating separation by size and ultimately reading the base sequence.
Students learn about the planets of our solar system, moons and sun including physical characteristics, surface features, distance from Earth, atmospheric conditions etc... Afterwards, they are to create a 3-dimensional model of an E.T. that could potentially live on that planet, moon or star and present their finding to the class. Students will have an opportunity to give feedback to each student presentation. This is definitely a worthwhile project since students can use their creativity and
