During my Professional Development with Compass PD we were learning about different reading strategies. I learned about using different symbols while reading. I decided I did not want to take up my whole wall with an anchor chart and decided to create a bookmark. This way the students would have the information and be able to use it as a bookmark while reading. My students love that they can see what symbols to use with their post it notes to make little comments as they are reading.
If you are tired of using paper in the morning I have a solution for you. I love using google slides and setting up a question or a fun fact for my students to respond to. This is a great way to keep students busy and have them up and moving. I was able to find a nice day and walk my students outside and have them look for the items on the list. You can also walk in the hallways and find some of the items.
In my classroom I have a class store where my students can buy passes at the end of each week. If for some reason I am gone which is super rare. LOL! I make sure to include these Sub Bucks into my Sub Survival Guide for the substitute teacher. I explain to my students at the beginning of the year when I explain how everything works that these are special dollars that are only earned if I am ever out for a couple hours or the day. I staple this ticket onto my students work who rushed through their work. I can tell because they did not follow instructions all the way or skipped some problems. My parents are glad that their student is given another chance to fix their assignment and turn it in for a higher grade.
