Second Grade Survival Kit! This is what I hand out on the first day of school along with a small bag filled with the items on the list. The kids enjoy getting something fun and it always generates great discussions about the upcoming year!
I created math journal questions based on the GO Math series. Each chapter has 3-4 weeks worth of questions. Each week has four questions. The questions are higher level thinking questions, multi step questions aimed at getting students to apply the concepts they have learned. Can be used for in class assessment or for weekly homework. Some of the measurement data is left blank so that you can fill in relevant data for your students. Covers full year - all common core standards.
Here is a simple way for students to be accountable for their forgotten homework. IF a student doesn't have work to turn in, they take a post-it, fill out date, reason for not having homework and they stick it in their planner for a parent to sign and return. I love using Post- it notes in class! Printing them is super easy and a fun way to give kids feedback in notebooks or on assignments.
First print out the template and stick post it notes on top of it. Carefully feed it into your printer tray. BE SURE you know which way your printer feeds the paper to avoid jamming it. (I place my paper face down with the top feeding first).
ENJOY!
Here is a fun way to hand out homework passes that will not get lost! I have my students stick the pass onto the inside of their folder pocket. Print out the template, stick the post-it notes on to it and put it through your printer. BE SURE you know which direction your printer feeds, or else it will jam. (I place my template with sticky notes upside-down with the top feeding first).
Here is a project that integrates a rainforest habitat science unit with the shared research and writing, knowing and using various text features parts of the reading and writing Common Core requirement.
Here are the spelling lists broken up by each weekly story. Each page has four copies of each spelling list. The pages can be printed on to card stock paper, laminated, and used for word work centers. I left it simple because many of my student are distracted by extra clip art. Enjoy!
Here is a list of the Reading Street vocabulary and spelling words broken up by story. I use it to copy and paste into my newsletter and to make individual spelling list cards to send home. Hope it is helpful for you!
