With distance learning going until the end of the year, I wanted to offer some fun experiences for my students. Since we were unable to take any actual end of year field trips this year, I thought this was a great alternative. I created a project for Newton's Laws of Motion for my middle school physical science students to complete. Originally, I had it planned for at school and working in groups. With not being in the building at this time, I had to adjust and turn it into an individually completed project. Since we are unable to host an end of year science fair this year, I created this virtual science fair option instead. We are allowed to have students record a video and submit to Google Classroom or, in this case, attach to a slideshow presentation. I am able to have all my students, 6-8, participate because I do work at a very small school.

I stumbled across a number of photographs of women in science over the years. I was inspired to create a project based on these photographs (which I am hanging around my classroom). You can use any female scientists you would like. I created this sorting activity for my life science students this year when we covered plant and animal cells. The instructions are on the next slide. I had them sort and then create a key of some kind that would help someone sort them into the correct category. They then gave it to a classmate with these cards to see if it made sense and that classmate could follow it. Teacher instructions are on the last slide, including print instructions.

I created a cut and paste activity for my students last year. I just updated it a bit for this year so it will fit in their notebooks a bit better. I would have them cut & paste as we go through the notes via slideshow. I also have an activity for them to actually practice the steps of the Scientific Method after notes. I knew this year would be tricky to use the microscopes and I knew I didn’t have many slides for cells the students could examine. Hello! I created these energy notes for my middle school students during this distance learning time. I also created a notes sheet to match. My students will be doing a couple of hands on activities first, then discussing what observations they made and using these notes to complete the fill in the notes questions. All of the other sheets and activities I mentioned above are also available at my store!

I created this scavenger hunt activity for my students to do at home during this distance learning time. They follow the clues to find 6 different things around their house and they have to state what the thing is and what types of energy it has while in use or while being still. There is also an answer key provided. This could go hand in hand with the Energy Slide Show Notes I have on my store as well!

Hello! I created this worksheet to match the energy notes slideshow (see my store)! I personally will be having my students use this along with the slideshow to complete as a homework note page; they will be doing this after completing some hands on activities at home. It could also be used as a short energy quiz.

I created this as a little booklet to send home on the first day to give parents an idea of what to expect this year. Totally editable as you need it to be. I included things like topics of focus, supply check, homework policy, lab safety info, about the teacher page, and a parent contact/important student info page. You could add pages about field trips/COVID guidelines, etc. I printed so it was like a little book and each was only on half of a page. You could use it full sheet if you want/need
