Distance Learning - Virtual Field Trips

Created by

With distance learning going until the end of the year, I wanted to offer some fun experiences for my students. Since we were unable to take any actual end of year field trips this year, I thought this was a great alternative. There are some absolutely amazing virtual field trips and experiences they can choose from. I also created my own set of questions for each one. This is how I am choosing to end the last 2 weeks of distance learning for all of my middle schoolers. I think it is a great way

Distance Learning Project: Newton's Laws of Motion

I created a project for Newton's Laws of Motion for my middle school physical science students to complete. Originally, I had it planned for at school and working in groups. With not being in the building at this time, I had to adjust and turn it into an individually completed project. I have provided a basic idea of a schedule for which steps should be completed by which day. They are using Google Classroom to complete the pages for each step and they will use Google Classroom to upload the fin

Since we are unable to host an end of year science fair this year, I created this virtual science fair option instead. We are allowed to have students record a video and submit to Google Classroom or, in this case, attach to a slideshow presentation. I am able to have all my students, 6-8, participate because I do work at a very small school.

I stumbled across a number of photographs of women in science over the years. I was inspired to create a project based on these photographs (which I am hanging around my classroom). You can use any female scientists you would like. I made sure there is enough I can assign a different one to each student, however I do have fairly small classes (I am using this with my 8th graders - there are 6 of them - and my 7th graders - there are 12 of them). The goal is to inspire my students, get them excit

I created a bunch of different activities for the 5 sense unit during my Kindergarten student teaching experience. They kids loved it. I went for hands on, cross-curricular, and engaging activities for them to learn about their 5 senses. Instructions are on page one.

I created this slide show all about space for my 6th graders. They worked on it in school at the time and worked together for some of it. They could absolutely do this at how though as either a homework option or a distance learning option. There are passages and videos throughout the slideshow with a question or two to answer for each slide. This could also be used as extra reinforcement during the space labs from the new lab books. Also included: answer key, so you know basically what informat

Plant & Animals Cell Sort

I created this sorting activity for my life science students this year when we covered plant and animal cells. The instructions are on the next slide. I had them sort and then create a key of some kind that would help someone sort them into the correct category. They then gave it to a classmate with these cards to see if it made sense and that classmate could follow it. Teacher instructions are on the last slide, including print instructions.

I created this activity to go along with the slideshow I created for the steps of the Scientific Method. This is used for my middle school students. I based this activity on one we did last year, knowing we already did that one. However, you certainly do not need to do the original in order to do this one. If you do, it's just the Gummy Bears soaking in water experiment and following the steps of the Scientific Method to conduct said experiment. It wasn't one I created, rather it was one that I

Kinetic Energy At Home

I created this activity for my middle school students to complete at home during this time away from the classroom. This focuses on using objects they could find at home to determine how mass and velocity affect an object's kinetic energy. Posting this to Google Classroom so each student receives a copy allows them to input their data right into the table and allows them to answer the post lab questions. There is the option to print for those who do not have access to technology. I would then re

I created a cut and paste activity for my students last year. I just updated it a bit for this year so it will fit in their notebooks a bit better. I would have them cut & paste as we go through the notes via slideshow. I also have an activity for them to actually practice the steps of the Scientific Method after notes. All of these can be found on my tpt in a bundle for the Scientific Method.

I knew this year would be tricky to use the microscopes and I knew I didn’t have many slides for cells the students could examine. So, this was my way around that while still allowing them to view cells under a microscope, just via a picture of those cells.  They worked with a partner to rotate from station to station around the room. At each station was a different card with a picture of a cell (laminated for easy sanitization). They then examined the pictures, checked off what features they co

Hello! I created these energy notes for my middle school students during this distance learning time. I also created a notes sheet to match. My students will be doing a couple of hands on activities first, then discussing what observations they made and using these notes to complete the fill in the notes questions. All of the other sheets and activities I mentioned above are also available at my store!

I created this scavenger hunt activity for my students to do at home during this distance learning time. They follow the clues to find 6 different things around their house and they have to state what the thing is and what types of energy it has while in use or while being still. There is also an answer key provided. This could go hand in hand with the Energy Slide Show Notes I have on my store as well!

I created this as a little booklet to send home on the first day to give parents an idea of what to expect this year. Totally editable as you need it to be. I included things like topics of focus, supply check, homework policy, lab safety info, about the teacher page, and a parent contact/important student info page. You could add pages about field trips/COVID guidelines, etc. I printed so it was like a little book and each was only on half of a page. You could use it full sheet if you want/need
