Community-based instruction is valuable for generalizing academic skills, and it also offers gifts of unplanned, unexpected teaching moments, too, doesn't it? A weekly activity was to plan a menu, go grocery shopping, make lunch, and clean up. Other days, we practiced shopping or price checking at drug stores, party supply stores, and discount stores. Additional biographical information

I love helping students to become independent which translates to teaching lifeskills, especially in the community. When I noticed students who were right on the verge of being independent as they graduated or exited the school system, I was inspired to create a decision-making app to provide a middle layer of support for them and peace of mind for parents. It's called Smart Steps Mobile. See www.SmartSteps4me.com for more information.
