Students need to know some personal information. What they don’t have memorized, they need to be able to locate using their student ID, a personal data card, a pocket resume, the internet, and so on. That’s what this unit is all about. In addition to a data collection form with questions that a student might need to know on an everyday basis (and a blank version for you to customize), additional activities in this packet require other types of practical reading and writing: Some require that th

Money Skills are so important in life and they provide a helpful foundation for many other math concepts and skills. I’ve designed this unit for those students who need more repetition and practice to develop money skills. Data sheets and lesson plans are designed for 1-1 or small group instruction. 17 sets of activity cards can be made into matching activities for independent work. Use this grade check sheet as a routine Monday Grade Check. Students check their own grades and use it for reference throughout the week. Use it for: 1-1 Conferencing, Goal-setting, and Follow up. Students record their current grade and indicate missing assignments or other actions they plan to take in order to raise their grades. It acts as a plan for the week, perfect for giving students choice and responsibility. (Provided as a .docx file so that you can edit the number of class periods.)

Additional biographical information

I love helping students to become independent which translates to teaching lifeskills, especially in the community. When I noticed students who were right on the verge of being independent as they graduated or exited the school system, I was inspired to create a decision-making app to provide a middle layer of support for them and peace of mind for parents. It's called Smart Steps Mobile. See www.SmartSteps4me.com for more information.
