This is a lesson on the vocabulary needed for units/lessons on Ratios, Rates, Proportions, and Scale. Common Core State Standards emphasize vocabulary building and this lesson will do do that. It is 17 pages with the vocabulary list and definitions, I Have Who Has game, Crossword Puzzle, Unscramble and list, Card sorts that can be used in 3 ways, and an assessment. Keys are included. Vocabulary is a main focus when talking about the common core standards. This unit uses 22 vocabulary words associated with units taught for expressions and equations. There are different activities to do to that will help students learn the key vocabulary needed to help in mastering their work with expressions and equations. I have a free product, Key Phrases for Basic Operations, that works well into this unit also.

In order for students to translate word phrases or word problems into algebraic expressions they must first know some key words/phrases to help them determine which operation to use. Common Core State Standards require more writing and more explanation, these key phrases will help your students in that area. I Have, Who Has card activity - uses 22 vocabulary words. Game starts with first card then a definition is read - whoever has the word to that definition says I have ______________ who has _____________ and they give out another definition that is on the card they have. You continue until you end back up at the first card.

This is a crossword puzzle using 22 vocabulary words for the unit on expressions and equations. There is a key included and you can print off with a word bank or without. I pick and choose who I give a word bank to and who I do not. This is a great center activity or could fit in your lesson anywhere.
