My TpT shop started under the name Kinder Hugs. I named it after one of my most favorite parts of teaching kindergarten: the hugs, of course! Kinder hugs are still a beloved memory but my passion as an educator has expanded in recent years. This product is a set of four math sprints and subitizing flash cards. A math sprint is a one minute timed mental math fluency practice. This set of sprints uses stars, both in recognizable patterns and arranged at random, to develop mental math fluency with numbers 1-10.
This product provides students with cards to build number sense with numbers 10-20. These cards can be used in many ways including: Memory, Flash Cards, and Find the Number. Students will use tens frames, domino type dot patters, finger counting, and tally marks and associate the quantities with its corresponding numeral.
This is a beginning of the year activity that I like to use to get to know my students. I like to read, Your Name is A Song by Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow and It’s Okay To Be Different by Todd Parr before I introduce this activity. This activity and these books help jumpstart a discussion about honoring individuality and celebrating what makes everyone unique. This resource gives your students a fun, hands-on way to spin and read CVC words as well as read and write split digraph (magic e) words. Included are five color and five black and white March Magic E mats and a recording sheet. Simply print and laminate the mats and print and copy the recording sheets. In my classroom, this is initially introduced in small, teacher led groups. When students are ready, it becomes an independent center.

After studying the names and characteristics of rectangles, triangles, squares, and circles, students wander around the classroom to find real world examples of simple 2D shapes. This product is great for introducing measurement, length, and non standard units. Students should color the number squares from the bottom to the top of each image. Then students will write the correct length in the open square in the top right corner. This product works as part of independent, small group, or whole class learning, depending on student need. These practice sheets can be completed individually or assembled with the front cover provided and made into a measurement book.
This is a beginning of the year activity that I like to use as in introduction to letter names, sounds, and handwriting. First I read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. Then, as I read each page, I say the letter name, the picture, and the sound. Students practice counting and identifying quantities 1-14 in different configurations and creating number bonds to reflect those quantities.
