About the store
Teaching is my second career. I spent 14 years in the computer software industry, starting out as a programmer and working my way up to Information Systems Manager. I then owned a small newsletter publishing business for 5 years. After selling the business, I decided to teach math - my very favorite subject. I have taught Intensive math, Pre-Algebra and Algebra I in a middle school classroom, and I've taught Intensive Math, Algebra 1 and Geometry in the High School setting. I currently am teaching High School Pre-Calculus, Algebra II and at the college level Intermediate Algebra and College Algebra.

Message in a Bottle - Understand Word Problem Keywords & Geometry Symbols
This activity is designed to help students recognize the symbols related to keywords and to understand what the various math/geometry symbols mean. Students will create a message of symbols using the decoder sheet that lists the words associated with each symbol and the code letter associated with the symbol. The students then use the same decoder sheet that to decode another student’s message. For example, > x |x| + corresponds to the words “is greater than,” “times,” “absolute value

I teach middle school math and needed a quick game to review key concepts with my students, thus I came up with the Math Must Know game. There are a total of five different Math Must Know games. This game concentrates on Algebra and Data Analysis skills.

Teaching style
I have a very mixed style of teaching depending on my audience. I like to use hands on activities whenever possible. I also believe that the only way to reach every student is to teach several different ways of arriving at the same answer. Most students will find the way that is the easiest for them to understand.

Additional biographical information
On a personal note, I've been married for 25 years and have three children - two in college and one still in high school. When I first started teaching at the high school level, I was asked to be a class sponsor, so being the newbie I said "yes." I have been the HHS Class of 2013 sponsor for three years now and feel like I have an additional 300 kids! I love teaching and am so happy I made this career change!
