I created a set of cards to tell my students the story of the history of writing. I cut out and laminated the text cards and the matching picture cards. I lay out the picture card as I tell the story, and then place the matching text underneath. When completed, this creates a timeline of the history of writing.

This is a wonderful writing assignment for students to complete after they have read "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe". It is in the John Collins FCA format, but would be good for any class. The assignment gives students three specific areas to work on while they are writing, which could be modified to fit your class.

This rubric is given to the students before they begin to write their autobiography, this way students know what is expected of them.

This letter to students and parents explains the autobiography project and gives them a chapter guideline. Chapters can be changed and rearranged by you, I found that I cut out some of the chapters toward the end of the project. These cards can be used to place words in alphabetical order, to look up words in the dictionary, or to use in a writing prompt. In the Montessori classroom, we use these for all of the above.
