I created a set of cards to tell my students the story of the history of writing. I cut out and laminated the text cards and the matching picture cards. I lay out the picture card as I tell the story, and then place the matching text underneath. When completed, this creates a timeline of the history of writing.

The assignment gives students three specific areas to work on while they are writing, which could be modified to fit your class.

However, you don't need to have the "Toobs" set in order to use the cards. These cards can be printed once for use as a three part card and a second time to make a control of error booklet.

This letter to students and parents explains the autobiography project and gives them a chapter guideline. Chapters can be changed and rearranged by you, I found that I cut out some of the chapters toward the end of the project. You can even give them the whole list and let them pick the chapters they would like to write. This goes with my autobiography Power Point and rubric.
