Experience

I have taught bilingual, dual language, and regular education in grades first, second, and fourth for a total of 19 years. It has been truly rewarding, and I feel so blessed!

Teaching style

My instruction is definitely student-centered. I differentiate my instruction and grouping throughout the day according to my students' needs. I target student needs by grouping them by similar levels in reading and math. I schedule blocks in both subjects to meet with these groups daily. This gives me the opportunity to assess and differentiate my instruction further. I set goals with each of my students and we celebrate accomplishments. In my experience of teaching language learners, I have also witnessed the power of collaborative learning. It's amazing to see how much faster students learn a language when they interact with students that are more fluent and also learn skills from each other.

Additional biographical information

I was a social worker before I became an educator. I always wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. Little did I know that God had other plans for me. Teaching gives us the opportunity to impact young lives every day. It's a type of social work too!
