I have been an Urban Math teacher for 14 years. I am also currently an adjunct professor at our local College and the Esports General Manager for our club and competition group.
Students will need a mirror and tape measure to find the indirect measurement using similarity and proportions of heights outside of the school. A great end of the year activity to get students questioning and finding measurements themselves.
I have used this project for a few years now. The writing activity is scaffolded for use with all students and anyone can write. For students who are ready, the example problem can be removed, or try using it in a Google Doc for a class group project to edit and comment about the paragraph proof.
Using processes to write and evaluate linear inequalities, this problem uses a serious truancy problem to solve and find a student's progress in paying a fine. For use with any student's teaching about what can happen when you have a change in your attitude.
Ever wonder what it takes to become an Epic Games Creator? Do your students enjoy Fortnite? What about how to generate funds as a creator? Use this task problem set to help students work through the monetization of their skill sets and learn what it takes to earn money while being an online creator. For the price of 1,000 V-Bucks, you can have students work through this problem scenario and work to enhance their understanding of the booming creator gaming culture.
Students are led through 3 levels of difficulty in SCRATCH Coding. Students begin creating a single program that draws polygons on the screen. The second project then has student code a random polygon drawing with a name for the shape. The final project steps students through creating a Sierpinski Triangle.
Using a social media platform student can share out their projects and teachers can grade their projects on a self made rubric.
Use this Excel Spreadsheet as a warm-up activity to change students into new groups. Set up the class the way you would like and assign students their seats by giving them an assigned compound statement to write. Cut out and have students either write their warm-up on the provided group slip, or create your own. I use a daily sheet for the Problem of the Day and had students write their individual statements on the day.
This is a poster I put up in my classroom and have laminated on my lesson plan folder. It's a great way to model the practice of active learning. Modify the colors and graphics to help support your school spirit.
