Banksy is a graffiti artist, famous for his use of stencils to create street art found all over the world. His controversial art pieces have been a topic of discussion for many years now. I found my 6th class in particular loved learning about Banksy and his art pieces sparked interesting discussions and debates in the classroom. After learning about Banksy and his use of stencils, we made then stencils of our own in an art lesson. They were tricky and definitely more suited for older classes
Keith Allen Haring was an American artist whose pop art emerged from the New York City graffiti subculture of the 1980s. His animated imagery has "become a widely recognized visual language". My 4th class boys loved learning about Haring and they really enjoyed looking at his artwork especially the murals he had done on buildings. After learning about Haring in this PowerPoint slideshow we did a 30 minute art lesson inspired by the style of Haring. This art activity is so accessible to student

Boggle is such a fun way to encourage students to practice their spelling and to create words from letters. I use this resource as an early finisher activity in my classroom. I display the letters on my 'early finisher board' and have the worksheets readily available for my students. I change the letters weekly and we correct the worksheets on a Friday. I usually give dojo points/prize to whoever gets the most points! The display letters involve little/no prep. Just print them on A4/A3 paper an

These cards can be used after discussing 'what to do if you are being bullied or witness bullying' with the pupils. I give out one card to a group of 3/4 pupils. They have to read the card and talk about what they would do in that situation. They come up with ideas about how best to respond in that situat

Irish mammals - bat, squirrel, fox, deer This is a really engaging activity that my students loved. They wrote different facts about a chosen mammal we had read about without naming the animal. They named the animal down at the bottom of their page and covered it with a post it note. They then read out their 'clues' and their peers had to guess what Irish mammal they were talking about :)
A worksheet that encourages students to distinguish between different feelings as Gaeilge. I accompany this bileog oibre at the end of my mothucáin lesson and it's a great way for students to use the new vocabulary and draw their attention to the spelling!
Concept cartoons are an excellent way of stimulating children's thinking and sparking class discussions. This concept cartoon focuses on the Light strand unit from the Science strand of energy and forces. It encourages pupils to think about light as a form of energy. It helps pupils to realise that light can come from both natural and artificial sources. I used this concept cartoon prior to carrying out a Science experiment in which we were investigating the growth of sunflower seeds. The expe
