This is the complete Kindergarten math curriculum. It can be used as enrichment for pre-school and for Introduction or Preview for the first month of Grade 1. In my experience this Pre-view is necessary as many children are confused by the Grade 1 Math text.

Students have complained that their teacher is making up the rules for solving equations just to annoy them. "Where is it in my text?" Often the rules were given years ago, and the student is assumed to have internalized them. Here are the rules as they appear in those earlier years. The answers are fully laid out to show the student HOW to answer. The lessons on how to read and summarize word problems are given in different ways because the student in Grade 5 is just learning to write compou

Adding and subtracting similar and dissimilar fractions is on the British Columbia and New York curricula spanning Grade 4 to 7. This information is in booklet format so that it is a discrete unit and to give the student practice in making notes by creating a journal. It is a how-to manual that will complement any standard text. It is not a problem-solving or testing device. Using legal-sized sheets, print the odd pages. Re-insert the printed sheets so as to print on the blank sides. Print

About the store

Experience

I have had a wide range of teaching experience from non-readers to first year university writing.

Teaching style

I start with the curriculum and then try to fill in the gaps as they come up. And they do come up. I invented my colour code for teaching grammar because my students were a) terrified of grammar and b)had forgotten everything that they might have learned. I found that students who were having difficulties in math had vision or hearing problems, or reading/writing problems. A lot of the mystery comes from not recognizing the kind of difficulty.

Awards & shining teacher moments

My own students credit me with teaching them grammar, or getting them through school, or helping them to get work.

My own education history

The best bit of advice that I received was this: The student takes three times the amount of time that the teacher does to complete a task/test. Always take your own test to find out a) how much time to allow for the student to write and b) how much space the student needs to complete the answer.
