Vacation Activity - Math Review (Great for State Testing Review!)

This activity requires students to think critically while using addition, subtraction, and multiplication while on "Vacation" together. I use this activity just before spring break each year for two reasons: 1) It makes a great test review just before state testing. 2) It gives students an appreciation for the sacrifices parents make to take spring break trips. The kids LOVE this activity. It's fun for me too!

Students may apply for credit in my classroom. Students first complete this credit card application. Answers to questions listed on the credit card application should be answered honestly by the student. I determine a student’s approval based on savings vs. spending habits and the amount of cash currently in the student’s wallet. If students have over $10, are employed for the week, and circle “homeowner” then they are approved for credit. If denied, students can always reapply at a later date.

Students and parents will sign stating that they understand the classroom employment s

You hear them all the time…tattletales. Tattletale Mail is a great way to deter tattletales in your classroom. As you introduce “Tattletale Mail” it is important to discuss the difference between a tattletale and information that a teacher truly needs to know. I use bullying, a student who is physically hurt, and a student cheating during a test as examples of things that a teacher really needs to know. I use silly examples, such as “Jack is looking at me funny,” as tattletales that should b

Once students have developed a sense of financial responsibility, they may begin opening their own stores in the classroom. Students who wish to open their own store must present their business plans. Business plans can be given to the teacher orally or in writing. If an individual student is opening a store then he/she will develop and present this plan. If two or three students wish to go into business together, then they will all work together to develop a plan and present it. A business lice
