About the store
I have been teaching for more years than I can count! I've taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, general education classes. I also have a masters in special education. I work with a lot of technology in the classroom, and I am part of a district team to figure out how to make the common core work. I'll be adding updating the SMARTnotebook files to the latest edition as soon as I have a few minutes. This year has been off to a crazy/busy start, and I'll be adding new things as soon as I am able!

Classifying Shapes- Triangles

This smartboard activity helps students learn or review the six different ways to name triangles (acute, right, obtuse, equilateral, scalene, and isosceles) Students explore the different types of angles, and how those can be used for naming the triangle. After sorting the triangles by their angles, students learn the different ways to name triangles by their sides. They also sort the triangles in this way. The last page can be printed for student review- with the six different types of triangle

Using A Protractor

This Smartboard activity reviews how to use a protractor and give the students 10 problems to give them practice using the protractor. It is interactive, and works great in a small group! Students review types of angles and how to use the protractor before trying them on their own. All angles are measured to degrees between 0 and 180, all measured to multiples of 5.

Classifying Shapes- quadrilaterals

In this smartboard lesson, students explore how to classify quadrilaterals as a trapezoid, parallelogram, rectangle, square, and rhombus. Students work through 4 questions on a flow map to help them understand the differences between the different quadrilaterals. I have used this as a small group center for struggling 5th graders and advanced second graders. As a whole group activity, it would work well for a review, or an introduction (although you may want to print off the shapes!)

This is a smartboard activity that can be used for whole group or as a math center. It consists of four sets of nine questions where students find the area and perimeter of squares and rectangles. The first three sets are solving for area, perimeter, or both for a given rectangle. The last set is story problems where the students need to identify whether to find area or perimeter. All answers are found underneath the questions. Directions for playing hyper tic-tac-toe are also provided.

I use this as a math center for my students, but it could also be used to teach area to a whole group. It has students briefly explore that area is measured in square units, then goes over how to use a formula to find the area of rectangles. There are several practice problems with hidden answers the students can use to self-check their work.

This is a smartboard lesson that can be done whole group or as a small group or center activity. It shows students how to add all the sides to find the perimeter of a rectangle (as well as the common mistake with this method) and how to use a formula to find the perimeter of a rectangle. There are also several problems for the students to solve with hidden answers.

Teaching style

I'm not sure where I fit on the teaching style continuum, it changes a lot based on the needs of my class.
