Think Pair Share Posters

In our Kindergarten class we talk all day long. Every question is first discussed with a classmate before it is answered individually to the whole group. The practice of "Think-Pair-Share" is essential in the Kinder room, but one that takes constant reminding of the process. My cute and bright TPS posters will help remind your Kinders, and maybe you, of how we "participate in collaborative conversations" (CCSS SL.K.1) I hope you enjoy this FREE resource.

Stellaluna RIRA and Close Read

RIRA stands for repeated interactive read aloud. There are many benefits to reading and using a text multiple times. In my Kinder class we used this book, Stellaluna, for a solid month (and my littles loved it). When we read a book multiple times we’re building vocabulary, understanding, and inferring skills. For the close read we highlight unknown words and interesting info and draw a picture to match. I hope your class enjoys this unit as much as mine did.

Subitizing is when you look at a group of objects and know how many are there without counting. Students will first be introduced to this skills using common patterns such as dice, move to 10 frames and then onto scattered configurations. After printing and laminating my owl 10 frame cards the teacher flashes the card to the students for 3 seconds and then the students tell their partners what they saw. “I saw 3 on top and 2 on bottom”, or “I saw 2 pink and 3 green so I saw 5 altogether”. Number sense is foundational for math success, and one of the best ways to gain that skill is by playing games. Dino who has more/less cards are ready to print and play similar to the class card game "war". Students love to play this game and don't even realize that they are building number sense at the same time. Simply print the four different dinosaur cards-with numbers or without-color or black and white, and laminate for a fun independent center.

Number sense is the most important math skill that kindergarteners need to learn. By adding some simple daily number sense routines to your calendar time you will be amazed at how your students start understanding and working with numbers on their own. I laminate all my posters and tape them to my wipe board. If you don’t have a wipe board you can write on the laminated posters and then write on them with dry erase markers. I hope that you enjoy these posters as much as my kindies did.

Are your students struggling to memorize their sight words? Do you need a quick sight word review that your students will love? Then my “I have who has first 30 dolch sight word” cards are for you. Give each student a card or two and start with the card that says start. Simply have your students read their card “I have…”, and then ask their question “who has….”. The student who has that word then says “I have…”, and then asks their question until your class goes through all the cards and en

Going on a Letter Hunt

My no prep letter hunt sheets are a great activity to build the skill of letter recognition. I use them in centers when introducing a new letter. My kinders love using stamps so they find the letter by stamping it. If you don’t have stamps have them circle or draw a star over the letters. Simply print the letter you want to use and copy.
