I use the poem frames to help my students learn about adjectives and verbs. The purpose is to develop their vocabulary. With little ones I have the whole class brainstorm words. With 2nd graders on up, I have them use a thesaurus to find words. Poem example: Ants, ants I like ants. Black ants, Tiny ants, Busy ants, I like ants. Ants build. Ants work. Ants collect. ...etc. This can become a fun cooperative learning, or partner activity.

Talk It Out! helps children resolve their problems as well as helping them to see things from the other person's point of view. I have used this very successfully in my own classroom. I put each stepping stone into a plastic page protector, and hook them together with binder rings. When there is a problem, we unroll the "path" and begin the walk and talk. When this happens, we stop the entire class, no matter what! (even instruction. It's worth it in the long run.) Next, the two students with th

Here is a chance to practice perimeter, measurement, and develop additional vocabulary. These are fun homework activities for students to do by measuring things in their house with a unit of measure they find at home. Later, they can revisit the activity using inches or centimeters. Since it is tactile, active and a relevant homework activity, even your most reluctant students may choose to do it. For our ESL students, it is also an activity to build their vocabulary for math and specific items

I use these poetry frames to teach adjectives and verbs. The purpose is for students to develop their vocabulary in, both, reading and writing. For beginners I have the whole class brainstorm words for each subject. For older students, I have them look up words in a thesaurus. For example: Me gustan mariposas Mariposas lindas Mariposas Monarch Mariposas pintorescos Mariposas aletearan Mariposas volaran Mariposas beben....etc. This is a fun partner, or cooperative learning activity.

As students fill in the chart, they will need to check for tense and whether the subject is plural or singular. To make it easy for you, or students to correct, an answer key is provided.

There never seems to be enough practice pages! I made these for teaching my students when to use A or AN in a sentence. These are handy for extra pages to use as homework, practice, intervention or ESL students. It's an easy paper for a sub to work with. These pages compliment the free A and An page in my store.

I have used these poetry frames in my classroom to help students learn adjectives and verbs. The purpose is to develop and expand their vocabulary. With little ones, we brainstorm words and the children choose the words they like and insert them in the frame. With 2nd grades and older, I have students use a thesaurus. A sample poem might be: I like horses. Sturdy horses. Fast horses. Friendly horses. Horses gallop. Horse whinny. Hoses clop. ...etc... These are a fun partner, or cooperative

I have used these poetry frames to teach adjectives and verbs. The purpose is to help children expand and develop their vocabulary. With little ones I have them brainstorm as a whole class. Then, I let the children choose the words they want and insert them into the frame. For older students I have them use a thesaurus to find interesting words. This is a fun activity that works well as a partner or cooperative learning experience. Afterwards, it makes a cute bulletin board. A poem could look li

This is a practice page for learning about Adverbs. I have also made a list of common adverbs that students can choose to use in their writing to make it more interesting. The list can be glued together to make a long, vertical banner for the children to refer to. I laminated it once, and used it for over 15 years before I needed to replace it. I hope it will be helpful to you too.

Reading comprehension is a challenge to teach, let alone find homework pages for my reluctant readers to do. I began to focus on less common animals in order to engage my students. Also, I wanted quick, doable homework pages for my students to use. The main idea and supporting details is a good place to start. I hope you find them helpful.

This is a fun activity designed to help students learn and understand the concept of perimeter. In addition, students learn that any unit of measure can be used to find the perimeter, providing they agree upon, and use the same unit of measure for all. Use it once with any unit of measure, and another time using their rulers for inches and centimeters. This is a wonderful ELD and vocabulary development activity using math and measurement.

I have always preferred to have a Hundred's Chart that started with ZERO. Hard to find! So, like most teachers, I made my own. You can take this page to a place like Kinkos or Staples and have them blow it up to poster size. I have included one that is plain and one that has highlighted numbers. It worked better for some of my intervention students.

About the store

Experience

I am a retired reading specialist, intervention and 1st through 5th grade teacher. I hope to share my personally created materials with you in order to make your busy lives a little easier.

Teaching style

I believe in addressing multiple intelligences throughout instruction. As a teacher, I ran a tight ship with a structured environment. I doled out lots of love and encouragement, as well as self expression throughout the day. I feel that most of the time children can learn from the natural consequences of their behavior, both, positive and negative. I believe strongly that all teaching should have ELD imbedded. It's just plain good teaching that all children need.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Other than a Teacher of the Year award from PTA in 2005, I haven't had any awards and honors. I can honestly say that I have had many rewards, as parents and students have come back over the years to tell me how much they appreciate all that they learned while in my class.

My own education history

Bachelor of Arts: English and Liberal Studies Masters Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis on reading.

Additional biographical information

I've been married 40 years, raised two boys, and now have a fantastic grandson. One son has suffered with dyslexia and the other with ADHD. I have a lot of empathy for parents and teachers trying to cope with these sorts of problems, hence my interest in reading, ELD, learning disabilities, and behavior modification.
