About the store
I have been a classroom teacher at a small, rural high school in Ontario, Canada for the past 13 years. I am also currently the department head of English/Literacy, and have also held the title of department head of Special Education. My teaching practice has included grades 7-12, in the Academic (University prep), Applied(College prep) and Local (Workplace prep) streams. I have mainly taught English courses, however have also occasionally taught History, Civics, Art and Government. Recently, I have also expanded my practice to e-learning and have taught multiple courses via this platform. Another interest of mine is writing and/or editing curriculum or units for my local school board, which is often a summer opportunity I pursue.

Autobiography/Biography Assignment
This resource is an ideal way to begin a course. Students are asked to use the writing process (brainstorming, creating an outline, creating a rough copy, editing, creating a good copy) to either write an autobiography or a biography about another student in the class. The resource includes step by step guidelines for students, as well as a outline skeleton, editing checklist and assessment rubric.

Frankenstein Seminar Assignment
This resource is a seminar activity concerning the novel, Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley.Students are given a selection of seminar topics and are asked to work individually, in pairs, or groups (depending on class size) to create a seminar for the class concerning their topic. Independent Reading End of Term Writing Tasks: Reflection or Essay
This collection of two writing activities are for teachers to use as culminating writing pieces after students have spent a term independently reading. Option #1 is geared towards more intermediate students and is a reflection of the students favourite reads in an organized, multiparagraph piece of writing. Option #2 is geared towards secondary students and offers essay topics for students to write formal, MLA style papers based on one or more texts they independently read throughout the term. B

Experience
I have been a classroom teacher at a small, rural high school in Ontario, Canada for the past 13 years. Teaching style
I aim to create classroom materials that are based on the application of diagnostic assessment to gauge student starting points, formative assessment to enhance student learning and gain feedback as a teacher, assessment as the student is learning to ensure learning is taking place and then finally evaluative assessment.
My teaching style is inquiry based, student centered and attempts to focus on student engagement, especially through the use of 'hot topics' and technology.

Additional biographical information
I am a married mother of 3, and enjoy quiet country living on our family farm. My family is also deeply engaged in attempting to reduce our ecological footprint by living off the land as much as possible. We have our own chickens, rabbits, a large garden and we are active fishers and hunters.
