I have over 20 years of teaching experience, as well as experience working as a research chemist. My teaching experience includes middle and high school science and math: • 7th grade Life Science • 8th grade Physical Science • 9th grade Physical Science • H.S. Biology • H.S. Chemistry • H.S. Earth Science • H.S. Physics • Dual-Enrollment Chemistry • Algebra 1 • Algebra 2 In a small school, variety is easy! I now serve as our dean of science and assist with science curriculum decisions for the upper grades. I also provide support and resources for the elementary grades science teachers.

Includes background information, procedure for the flame test, and review questions including representative wavelengths associated with the elements. Students will also use a spectrometer to compare the colors seen in the flame with those seen using the instrument. The ions may be dissolved and the splints soaked in the different solutions to use for the tests, but I usually soak the splints in distilled water and put very small amounts of each ion in test tubes. Experience

Teaching style

I encourage students to build upon previous knowledge and gain new knowledge. I incorporate many activities and labs to involve the students in the practical application of the material, and I am using an increasing number of foldables to review and reinforce key concepts. I have found that students learn very differently, but all can grasp even difficult concepts when given the opportunity. I enjoy finding a variety of ways to present these concepts and learning how to match them to the students I am teaching!
