I have over 20 years of teaching experience, as well as experience working as a research chemist. My teaching experience includes middle and high school science and math: • 7th grade Life Science • 8th grade Physical Science • 9th grade Physical Science • H.S. Biology • H.S. Chemistry • H.S. Earth Science • H.S. Physics • Dual-Enrollment Chemistry • Algebra 1 • Algebra 2 In a small school, variety is easy! I now serve as our dean of science and assist with science curriculum decisions for the upper grades. I also provide support and resources for the elementary grades science teachers.

This laboratory activity uses a multi-surface board (or several different types of surfaces) to measure the forces required to start an object moving and keep an object moving. The procedure guides them through calculations of the coefficients of static and kinetic friction, then has them repeat the process for doubled surface area. An additional procedure addresses the coefficient of static friction for an inclined surface. Review questions are included. This lab has been used at several

This resource is a set of five vector case studies that ask students to find resultants and equilibrants. Students solve for missing values graphically and algebraically, then verify using a force table. This is a good project to end a study of vectors in preparation for motion in two dimensions.

Experience

Teaching style

I encourage students to build upon previous knowledge and gain new knowledge. I incorporate many activities and labs to involve the students in the practical application of the material, and I am using an increasing number of foldables to review and reinforce key concepts. I have found that students learn very differently, but all can grasp even difficult concepts when given the opportunity. I enjoy finding a variety of ways to present these concepts and learning how to match them to the students I am teaching!
