About the store
I have over 20 years of teaching experience, as well as experience working as a research chemist. My teaching experience includes middle and high school science and math: • 7th grade Life Science • 8th grade Physical Science • 9th grade Physical Science • H.S. Biology • H.S. Chemistry • H.S. Earth Science • H.S. Physics • Dual-Enrollment Chemistry • Algebra 1 • Algebra 2 In a small school, variety is easy! I now serve as our dean of science and assist with science curriculum decisions for the upper grades. I also provide support and resources for the elementary grades science teachers.

Preview of Writing and Naming Binary Ionic Compounds

Writing and Naming Binary Ionic Compounds

This is a good review and practice after introducing the rules for writing and naming binary ionic compounds. Students have the opportunity to use oxidation numbers to construct correct formulas, and to use the rules of nomenclature for naming, including using Roman numerals for transition and post-transition elements. This can also be used as a quiz to measure understanding. Answer keys are included for the worksheets.
Preview of Practice with Polyatomic Ions

Practice with Polyatomic Ions

Students will practice writing formulas and names for compounds containing polyatomic ions. The components are in a grid format so the students have enough repetition to build familiarity with some of the more common polyatomic ions and confidence in writing formulas correctly. I have found this to be an effective practice! An answer page is included.
Preview of Practice with Parts of an Atom

Practice with Parts of an Atom

"Practice with Parts of an Atom" is an assignment for additional practice with atomic number, mass number, and how many protons, neutrons, and electrons are in each isotope. Since being comfortable with determining atomic number, mass number, and electrons is so important throughout chemistry, this practice is a useful tool in assessing student progress.
Preview of Reviewing Ionic and Covalent Compound Names

Reviewing Ionic and Covalent Compound Names

This is a practice that allows students to identify ionic and covalent compounds and then name each correctly. They will also practice naming acids, both binary and ternary, and writing formulas from names. This review is good for physical science and first year chemistry students. Having studied ionic and covalent compounds, this combines both and has them distinguish between them. An answer key is included.
Preview of Volcano Identification Activity

Volcano Identification Activity

After introducing the types, this activity guides students through classification, tectonic plate boundary type, and historical eruption data for 18 well-known volcanoes. It is a good link between the information and the actual effects!
Preview of Comparing Phase Changes

Comparing Phase Changes

This worksheet allows students to compare the changes between physical states by energy, particle motion, and attractive forces. The detail of the content will depend on the level of the class, but the result is a very useful tool for reviews and test preparation. Additionally, this fits well into an interactive science notebook!
Preview of Ionic Bond Practice

Ionic Bond Practice

This worksheet allows students to practice using Lewis dot structures to illustrate the formation of ionic bonds, followed by converting them to formulas and names. This is a good introductory lesson for beginning ionic bonding. I have used this for several years and have been very pleased with how well students are able to envision the concept after this practice!

Teaching style

I encourage students to build upon previous knowledge and gain new knowledge. I incorporate many activities and labs to involve the students in the practical application of the material, and I am using an increasing number of foldables to review and reinforce key concepts. I have found that students learn very differently, but all can grasp even difficult concepts when given the opportunity. I enjoy finding a variety of ways to present these concepts and learning how to match them to the students I am teaching!
