My students are currently working on subtraction and I am always looking for fun ways for them to practice the skill. I got some shape punches from the Target dollar section recently and realized they could punch out the shape, glue them to match the number, then subtract by crossing out the matching number and write the answer. This will help them gain beneficial fine motor practice, coordination, plus good ol' count and match the number time.

I love using Interactive Math Notebooks but kept finding myself frustrated with how much cutting and gluing was involved, especially at the beginning of the year! At the beginning of the year, I want my students to practice getting into the routine of math notebooks; the more complicated stuff can come later.
