I have 25 years of experience in education. Fifteen years were spent teaching all subject areas in 4th and 5th grade. I have been an Instructional Coach at a Title 1, high-needs school for the last ten years. I make a living researching best practices and supporting teachers at my school as they implement best practices, programs, and high-quality teaching strategies.

This document contains 36 Days of Writing for weekly sentence stretching practice. Students are given short, choppy sentences are required to add details to stretch the sentences. The first 9 are simple sentences, the second 9 are compound sentences, the third 9 are complex sentences, and the last 9 are mixed review. This is a good way to practice writing skills, combine sentences, practice sentence variety, and review conjunctions. I have done these weekly Stretch Its in my classroom for the

Citing Evidence Graphic Organizer
I have used this graphic organizer many times to help guide students through a text. Give the students a short text with questions. Ask them to answer the question differently based on whether they are summarizing, paraphrasing, or quoting. This has helped my students tremendously in understanding the difference!

Writing Process Class Clip Chart
This chart has 7 pages: Planning, Rough Draft, Revising, Editing, Peer Edit, Conferencing, and Publishing.
The pages may be printed, laminated, and then can be used with clips to track each child's progress in writing class.
Great for a "status of the class" for writer's workshop.

3D Figures Chart
This organizational chart helps students keep track of information regarding 3-Dimensional Figures. Students will identify number of faces/bases, edges, vertices, parallel and perpendicular lines.
I always had the students fill in this chart after they worked together in partners to take nets and fold them into 3D shapes.

Geometry
Explorers Cut and Paste
Students are to cut and paste the Explorers with the facts that correlate. They can glue them onto a piece of construction paper.
This can be a center, a mini-lesson, partner work, or a review activity.

Teacher/Student Writing Revising Conference Form
This is a form that my 5th graders would have to fill out and bring to me when we conferenced over their revising. I made them write specifically what they changed. I find this better than a checklist because the students can't simply check "yes" or "done" without doing any deep thinking. :)
