This is an extension activity for area, perimeter, volume and can be extended to surface area.
Students will design a city with 12 buildings.
12 buildings:
2 buildings in the shape of a trapezoid
2 parks or gardens in the shape of a triangle
3 buildings in the shape of a rectangle
2 buildings of combined shapes
3 of your choice
Students first draw out their city 2D and find the area and volume.

In this project, students will explore the artist Mondrian and then use his inspiration to create their own work of Mondrian art. Students can either create their own art, as seen here, or use the templates provided. After creating their design, students will use their knowledge of rational numbers to calculate the fraction, decimal, and percent of each color used in their artwork.
