Posters to help teach long vowel, diagraph, r controlled sounds and more!

I needed a visual aid to help me teach my kindergartners long vowel sounds. I searched and searched but just found a few things here and a few there so I decided to create a full set of my own. Each poster has a catchy phrase to get the kids hooked and it is short enough for them to remember. For example the long E poster's phrase is "Ellie Eel likes to squeal." The posters each have a sample of the vowel combinations (ee, ea) and a picture to go with it. This set includes long vowels sound

Great Activity for the Computer Center in Kindergarten: Keyboard Books!

In the beginning of the year many kindergartners really can't handle the computer center. This is the perfect way to get them familiar with the computer and help them with their letter recognition! I take each book and laminate the pages. Then I bind them with the binding machine. I have been using mine for years and they are still in great shape. I keep these books in a basket next to the computer. During literacy centers, when a student goes to the computer he/she chooses a book and type

Kindergarten Got Dots Cards for Math Common Core, Subitizing & More!

With the new Kindergarten Common Core Curriculum there are so many Got Dots games that I didn't want to use the black masters that are provided with the unit. So I created 8 sets of cards for students. Each set has dots (great for subitizing) shown in 2 ways, numerals, and numbers words. I did this so I could easily differentiate with students. In addition each set is a different color. I have taught my students that they should never have the same color as their partner. This makes sorting

So I have been using a variety of methods to teach letters and letter sounds to my kindergartners and I just haven't been happy. My system was half made up, some curriculum, some jolly phonics, etc. I finally decided that if I devote hours to reallly brainstorming, I could come up with a whole alphabet set to help teach my students the letters as well as the letter sounds. What you get with this set is a brand new way to teach each letter. Every letter has a poster with picture on it that re

Rainbow Writing Journal teaches letter formation & provides handwriting practice

This is a black and white master of a rainbow writing journal. We use these every year in kindergarten to help our students practice their handwriting. The dots on each line help students know where to put their pencil to start. The cute vehicle theme helps students understand letter formation. Small letters (safe drivers) stay in their lane, tall letters (road hogs) take up both lanes, and crazy drivers (letters that fall) go off road. It is a fun and easy way to get students engaged in bo

These are one of my kindergarteners favorite center activities. During Literacy Centers, one center that we always have is the puzzle center. I love to put out store bought and educational wooden puzzles, but there was no product or accountibility piece. These puzzles solved that! This set includes the following puzzles: Beginning Blends Clifford, CVC Cat in the Hat, UC & LC match Winnie the Pooh, Beginning Sounds Firetruck, Ending Sounds Mother's Day, CVC words President's Day, and CVC word

This is a set of cllassroom coupons that I use in place of giving away little trinkets and toys. It just became too expensive to keep the treasure box filled. Although there is still a copuon that lets students go to the treasure box, many of them would rather choose something else. These will be a great addition to any classroom behvaior reward or incentive system. Print, laminate and cut. Easy, simple and cheap! This set was made to go with my classroom, but with 29 different coupons to

Lakeshore's Mystery Word Builder Balls are so much fun, but I needed an accountability piece to go with them to ensure my students were working during independant literacy centers. I created these worksheets to go with the mystery balls. There are 4 worksheets that coordinate with the 4 colors of balls. This way you can put out one color a week and have this center last 4 weeks. All you need to do is change the balls and change the worksheet each week. It is a great way to keep students on t

Fun Alphabet Flashcards Teach Letters and Letter Sounds

This set of flashcards was created to help my kindergarten students learn their letters and sounds together. Each letter stands for a picture (A is for alligator), but also has a sound that goes with the picture (act afraid of the alligator. /a/ /a/ /a/). I was tired of the system I was using and wanted a brand new way to teach letters AND sounds that made sense to both teachers and students. I spent hours brainstorming and this is what I came up with. This set includes a flashcard/poster fo

These worksheets were made to go with Lakeshore's Phonics stamp set. I usually put out one set each week, so the worksheets are labeled with the corresponding color: blue for beginning sound, red for middle sound, and green for ending sound. Students simply stamp the picture in a box and then fill in the missing letter. This helped my students be more organized during literacy centers at the stamping station. Having them stamp on plain papaer seemed to get messy and the students never knew ho

I LOVE my lakeshore match-ups puzzles but I needed them to have an accountibility piece so I could be sure my kindergartners were doing what they were supposed to during independent literacy centers. So I created these worksheets. The pictures match the pictures on the match-up puzzle pieces. They coordinate with the following products: 1) Beginning Sounds Match-Ups, 2) Middle Sounds Match-Ups, 3) Ending Sounds Match-Ups, and 4) Rhyming Sounds Match-Ups. The same set of stamps is used for all three sets. Students simply find pictures to make each statement true. This is a great activity to put out during literacy centers, and especially if you have a stamping center. If you don't own the Lakeshore set, you could have students draw pictures, use your own stam
