This is a vocabulary and comprehension unit with assessments on three of Tomie DePaola's books: Tom, The Baby Sister and Tony's Bread. There are vocabulary and comprehension assessments for each of the three books. You will also find vocabulary flashcards and definitions for at home study and practice, vocabulary cut and paste activities, two vocabulary cloze worksheets per book (one of which could be used for an additional vocabulary assessment), and a sequencing activity for each book.

The vocabulary unit includes a set of vocabulary flashcards and their definitions for at home practice and study. Also included is a vocabulary cut and paste activity for children to match words and their definitions. Two vocabulary cloze worksheets are included along with a vocabulary definition test. You may use one of the cloze activities for an additional assessment. I have also created a comprehension test for the story - The Day Jimmy's Boat Ate the Wash.

This is a grammar assessment on adverbs which has students identify the adverb in a sentence and then tell whether the adverb tells "when", "how" or "where". The student also needs to write a sentence using an adverb correctly. I utilize this as an end of week assessment.

This is a grammar test on possessive nouns. This test only focuses on singular possessive nouns. The children have to write possessive nouns correctly, identify the possessive noun and common noun in a sentence, and write sentences using possessive nouns correctly.

This is a grammar assessment worth 35 points that focuses on synonyms. The children will need to identify pairs of synonyms in a sentence, provide a synonym for an underlined word in a sentence as well as provide a synonym for a given word using a word bank. I generally use this as an end of week assessment after instructing on the skill during the week. An answer key is included.

This is a 40 point assessment on antonyms. An answer key is included at the end. The students will have to choose the correct antonym from a word bank to complete sentences, choose pairs of antonyms in sentences, and provide an antonym for a given word. I use this as an end of week assessment after instructing the skill.
