This activity is broken into three parts. The first part uses a frequency distribution of Words With Friends tiles to explore simple probability, addition rule, and complements. The second part allows the student to use an empirical method to find the frequency of letters used in the English language and to find empirical probabilities. This is an activity that combines constructing a data table from a survey of students and classifying data types. Students are asked to find data for six different variables and then classify each variable as categorical or quantitative. There are also six questions to answer about the data table results.
