While I don't normally encourage writing as a punishment, this particular assignment is an exception for me. Students are required to hand copy an essay of several paragraphs discussing disruptive behavior and how it takes away from the free education they get in this country (that many other countries do not get). Students have to take ownership for both the negative behavior displayed by writing down everything they did wrong; then they must think of and write down what they will do to make
This worksheet helps introduce students to probability and odds while having fun with a delicious treat - M & Ms! Each student gets their own bag of M & Ms (you determine the size) and counts out the total number, then the number in each color group. Worksheet contains tables to fill in totals, along with instructions for each step of determining probability. Students also have a separate table to compare their results to a neighbor.

This project can be used for students to display research they find on assigned African countries. This activity allows students to create their dream school by drawing the blueprints for a new school after their old one was destroyed. Students use a scale model, graph paper, rulers, and pencils to draw the model. Students must list the measurements (in inches and in feet) on the back, as well as on a separate sheet (included) that has a space for the room name and the measurements.
A complete set of academic words of the day, complete with definition. Dates are from a previous year, but can easily be changed to suit the year/semester you use the document.
Instructions for creating basic factor trees. Picture examples included. Student creativity is encouraged - this could be used around the holidays with Christmas trees, or in April for Earth Day.

I prefer to have a flipped classroom, teaching with videos, manuals, and the web, and allowing students to work at their own pace. This also allows me to be my own assistant and help the struggling students while allowing the other students to continue working without interruption.
