I have been teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) for 10 years. I have taught every level - from the true beginner (just arrived in the U.S. and doesn't speak a word of English) to the advanced (fluent in English but working on perfecting writing skills). My background before teaching was in business. I come from a family who always owned their own business so I grew up with an extremely strong work ethic, a spirit of entrepreneurship, and the spirit of never being afraid to try and fail because if you don't try, you will miss out on so much in life.

Irregular Past Tense Verbs - Quick Time Movie

This Quick Time movie is a fun way for students to learn and practice past tense irregular verbs. Often students just want to add the –ed to every verb to make it into the simple past. This movie that I made is a great way for students to learn and practice 17 commonly used irregular past tense verbs. I chose classical piano music and a beach theme for this movie. As the music and pictures move through this 4 minute, 36 second movie, the base form of the verb appears first, then a clock appe

Positive Power of Visual Language - students see it for themselves!

This fun lesson plan is one I created to teach students the positive power of visual language in their writing. I often tell my students that the words they write should paint a picture in the reader’s mind. This is the perfect lesson so that students quickly will see for themselves how visual language works. The youngest grade I have used this with was 2nd grade and the oldest age group was middle school. It is simple and fun, yet really drives home the point of how visual language can make

More Irregular Verbs Quick Time movie

Part 2 of Irregular Past Tense Verbs....this Quick Time movie is similar to the first Irregular Past Tense Verb movie in my store but with 23 different verbs - some of which might be considered a little more advanced. I shared this with the third grade teachers at my school and they use it as part of their "brain breakfast" in the morning when the students first come in and are getting unpacked and settled in. I chose a simple tune and a cloud theme for this movie. As the music and pictures mov

Teaching style

Because of my background and upbringing, the style of my teaching and atmosphere in my classroom is that of a safe haven where you can try and not be afraid to fail. My students know it is safe in my classroom - just as safe to fail as much as it is safe to succeed. With this style, I see so many wonderful successes in my classroom! I lead by example telling my students of my latest adventure in learning new things - the triumphs and the failures - because I want them to have the ambition to learn and try new things!
