This handout features a flow-chart style graphic organizer that will help guide students through the process of combining two independent clauses into a single sentence. One branch explains how to combine independent clauses using coordinating and subordinating conjunctions; another branch explains how to combine independent clauses using colons and semicolons.

Activity includes 1 full-page blank grid for students to write and color in to accommodate their selected words; 3 pages of lines designated for hints/definitions; and 1 page showing a sample crossword.
This is thirty-two pages of review and practice with denotation and connotation. Students are asked to use venn diagrams to compare synonymous words, and to explain why some words are more appropriate to use in a passage than others. All questions are open-ended so that students are encouraged to articulate nuances in their own words. There are three different types of activities that each go on for pages and pages, so you can print out as many or as few of each kind as your students will need
When I was in school, I didn't understand that verbs could be both "subjunctive" and "present perfect."
